The 31 year old was nominated and won best DJ in 2008, its a title he rightly deserves with his infectious mix of deep, tech and soulful house.
Crane’s influences are wide-ranging; his dad was an A&R for two of the majors in a 35-year career, and Tom recalls growing up on a diet of “everything” from Marvin Gaye to The Cure, The Beatles to hip hop and reggae. It was Tom’s brother who was instrumental in his decision to pursue music when he bought him a set of the infamous 1210s in 1992. Tom instantly caught the bug, and so began his passion for spinning timeless tunes, realised at his first gig at Emporium, Soho.

The feedback from the “amazing crowd” that night spurred Tom on to secure a weekly residency at Mayfair’s Mahiki. Since then, Crane has spun at exclusive private parties and glamorous events for the likes of Kanye West, Jade Jagger, Chanel, Kanye West, Rihanna, Jessie J and Donatella Versace, amongst others. More recently he smashed it at the V Festival, Blue Marlin, KM5 Ibiza and Es Pardis.
When he’s not behind the decks, Crane can be found chilling to the likes of Gil Scot Heron and Toots and the maytals. Currently also in the studio producing his first album, he expects release his new album in 2011. |
